How to Use a Core Drill Bit?

1. Preparation

- Before starting to cut, make sure the core drill bit is fully installed and not loose or unclamped. At the same time, check that there is no iron filings under the magnetic block of the magnetic drill, the adsorption surface is flat, and the machine does not wobble or is not fully adsorbed.

- Choose the appropriate core drilling bits according to the thickness and hardness of the cutting material. Carbide magnetic drill hollow drill bits are suitable for harder materials, while high-speed steel drill bits are suitable for general materials.

2. Marking and drilling

- Use a stylus to accurately outline the cutting line on the material to be cut. Make sure the lines are clear for subsequent operations.

- Use a bench drill or hand drill to drill holes along the inside of the cutting line, with the hole distance from the cutting line about 0.5 mm, and the distance between holes should not exceed 0.5 mm. Place a flat wooden block under the material to reduce deformation during cutting.

3. Cutting process

- When starting to drill, the feed should be slow and steady, and the feed speed can be gradually increased after cutting 1~2 mm. Slow down the feed speed appropriately when the knife is out, and keep the feed uniform during the intermediate cutting process.

- Maintain sufficient cooling during the drilling process to avoid intermittent cooling that causes the tool to break. Reasonable use of coolant can effectively extend the service life of the drill.

- For thicker materials, you can use the layered cutting method and withdraw the knife multiple times to assist the tool in chip removal to ensure smooth cutting.

4. Remove material

- Gently tap along the drill hole with a chisel or hammer to completely separate the part to be removed from the part left. Be careful when operating to avoid damaging the remaining part.

- After the initial cutting is completed, use a file to remove burrs and trim the cutting edge to ensure a smooth boundary. Users with conditions can use power tools to perform this step to improve efficiency.

5. Safety precautions

- During the entire operation, always pay attention to safety and wear protective equipment such as goggles and gloves.

- When encountering a dead stop, the power supply should be cut off immediately, and the tool should be manually reversed slightly to remove the drill blade from the cutting area before proceeding to the next step.

- Check the tool status regularly and replace it in time if it is worn or damaged to avoid the quality of cutting or accidents caused by tool problems.

Through the above five steps, you can use the core drill efficiently and safely to complete various cutting tasks. Correct operation methods and careful work attitude are the key to ensuring cutting effect and safety.
